The exterior of the globe is hand-laid paper which is applied in a manner which is similar to the application of wall paper.
As the paper is laid on the spherical globe the lines of latitude do not meet precisely.
This is intentional as the globes of that era were produced in this manner.
The globe is based on 16th century maps depicting the world as it was known at the time.
As a result incongruities with modern knowledge of the continents exist.
